Singer and activist Pete Seeger dies at age 94

The folk singer , troubadour and American activist Pete Seeger died at the end of last night in a New York hospital after six days in the hospital , at the age of 94 .

Seeger died peacefully in his sleep told his grandson , Kitama Cahill - Jackson , announcing the death of his grandfather .

The singer gained fame as a member of The Weavers , quartet formed in 1948 and enjoyed success with songs like " Goodnight Irene " .

In 1950 , Seeger was left ostracized by their leftist positions . Commercial television channels from the United States boycotted for over a decade . But his career continued and he continued recording and performing for six decades .

Have nonagenarian , Seeger kept alive by political activism which also became known . In October 2011 , Seeger joined the protests of the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York .
